Lantern Festival

14th September
early early morning

Remember the time where two girls from Salibandy came down? They played for the Z-liners Floorball tournament about 2months back. And Innebabes won the silver medal. After the tournament we decided to celebrate with the sali girls as it was their first ever floorball medal, coincidently it was the moon cake celebration as well.

As usual our team manager Sam likes to show off. I'll show you why. Ha.ha

I can sing

I can play the guitar

I am strong

I am Sam

After struting his stuff, the girls went, "WWWWWooooooooooooooooo!" As you can see below:-

After lighting up our lanterns we walked around with it. We talked about our childhood experience playing with lanterns and all. Somehow, traditions and culture is something that gives us our identity but sadly people are getting less interested in it. After talking and all, the girls start to ignore Sam. As you can see again.

Lonely, I am so lonely, I got nobody, lalalalla

michelle and wen lin (Salibandy!Co)

Innebandy!Co would like to thank you guys once again for coming down to Penang. We wish you all the best in our future undertakings, hope to see you guys again.

Floorball in Full Gospel Tabernacle (FGT)

On 27th of October, Sam and Deswyn were invited to conduct a floorball clinic to the youth of Full Gospel Tabernacle (FGT) and some of the boys from 14th Penang Boys' Brigade.

The place provided to us to conduct the clinic was.....their Church! Due to not able to book a court (public holiday) and with the gracious permission of their Pastor, the ball rolls on..

We begin with brief introduction about the game flooball and the parts of the stick. Then we proceed with simple ball control exercises. Half way doing the ball control some of them were already complaining.

Boys and girls trying out ball control

After some time of passing the ball to each other we split them up into two groups where they will be competing against each other to dribble through the cones. This is when things gets a bit interesting for them..

Passes and shot was part of the clinic... Without both of that what's the fun of floorball? Yea...some of them were having fun by shooting each other...

Then comes game time... These newbies did farely well due their exposure to different type of sports..

More floorballers were added into the Floorball family in Penang that day and my hope is that with the help of Innebandy! Co they could rise up and start their own floorball club!

Us with Them

Best teammate(s)

Most memorable moment in floorball?
Retaining the Youthwave trophy for the fifth consecutive year with Innebandy!Co…Sadly that did not happen…Right, I would say the most recent one should be scoring against Contact FireAnts, although that was an easy goal…XD

Who do you want to be and what do you want to achieve in the floorball scene of Penang/Malaysia in One year's time?
Honestly speaking…nothing. But, I would definitely like to help Innebandy!Co to win all the major upcoming floorball events. BUT, it won’t be easy… Thus, I beseech every ‘Innebandians’ to train extra hard during trainings and give all you got during any floorball events. But don’t forget the main purpose Who we’re doing all this for!

How can you contribute towards the development of floorball in Penang?
Well it is easier said than done, but I will try my best to introduce this sport to as many friends I possibly can. But what’s most important is sharing Christ to my friends by bringing them to YouthImpact through floorball.

Anything you want to tell to the floorballers in Penang?
Do not be complacent whenever you think you’re good enough. Always strive to be better, and be humble in everything that you do.

Z´Liners-PFA Floorball Challenge 2008

Date: 13 September 2008
Venue: Dalat International School, Penang

The Z´Liners-PFA Floorball Challenge on last Saturday kicked off with the Junior Category in the morning and the Ladies Category in the afternoon. This was the day that the mouse ran into the ear of an elephant and the roses showed their torns.

The Junior Category was a very promising competition which shows us how manys young floorballers coming up. The juniors from Dalat emerged as the champion and 2nd runner up. Meanwhile the juniors from Contact had to settle for the silver after losing 1-0 to Dalat in the final.

The Junior Category...

There were 8 teams taken part in the Ladies Category. 2 teams from MGS, 2 teams from Frontliners, a team each from Innebandy, Contact, FGA and USM. The teams were divided into 2 groups and Innebabes was drawn in group B with Contact Sugar, MGS Violets and Frontliner Fury.

Innebabes warming up...

The 1st challenge for the Innebabes was agianst the MGS Violets and before the game started the girls received some strategy from their coach Sam and some usefull advice and encouragement from Deswyn. The Innebabes didnt disppoint anyone by winning 4-1 with Valerie making a hattrick and Cuilin scoring her first goal in the competition.

sam giving some advice to wenlin...

After the first win the confident of the girls grew stronger as they went into the 2nd match facing Contact Sugars. Once agian Valerie did her magic touch by scoring the 1st goal for the team but Contact Sugars manage to pull back the score level. The match ended 1-1 with a draw for both teams.

sam giving some advise before playing against Contact Sugar...

Face off 2 against Contact Sugar...

Going into the 3rd match was a little more relax because a draw will be just enough to put the Innebabes into the semifinal but the girls didnt want just a draw. They wanted to win every game they play. So the girls fought all the way till the last whistle and the score line was 2-0. Thanks to the both girls from Salibandy: Michelle and Wen Lin

Wen Lin and Michelle...

Marching into the semifinal as the leader of Group B gave Innebabes higher chance to enter the final. Semifinal 1 was between Contact Sugar from group B and the group A champion Unihawks. Semifinal 2 was Innebabes agianst MGS Ednamodes.

Innebabes 1st in group B...

Semifinal 1 was a very interesting match between Contact Sugar and Unihawks. Both teams gave their best and in the end Contact Sugar playing a full press game sent Unihawks away by just a goal.
Semifinal 2 was also another repetition of the semifinal 1 where both teams also ran for their life just to score a goal because the team which win this match will definately secure a medal.
The girls from Innebabes were trying all their ways to pressure their opponents and so many chances were given away easily. Just before the match ended Innebabes was awarded a penalty. Valerie stood at the center of the court and gave Innebabes the lead by scoring the penalty. The match ended 1-0 and Innebabes were filled with joy and laughter.

happy yi lin...

Semifinal 2: Innebabes vs MSG Ednamodes...

group discussion before the final...

The final was another battle of Contact Sugar vs Innebabes. Despite having a 1-1 draw in the group match early of the day it was time to decide which team deserve to bring home the Gold medal. Both teams battled their last game of the competition and many shots were blocked. At the last minutes of match, the lack of concentration from the defender gave away a goal opportunity to Contact Sugar and they brought home the gold with the only goal. The Innebabes has to settle for 1st runner up and the 2nd runner up went to Unihawks.

Innebabes with Contact Sugar...

Innebabes with the silver medal...

The competition didnt end just like that. After the prize giving ceremony was the recognisation of the competition All-Star team. Valerie was the solo receiver from the Innebabes and Contact Sugar having Sheryn and Pene in the All-Star after putting wonderful perfomances throughout the competition. Sarah from Unihawks completed the All-Star team.
There were also prizes for the leading goal scorer Sarah from Unihawks and the most goal assist Dawn also from Unihawks.

Special thanks:
Wen Lin and Michelle- thanks for coming all away down from Selangor to complete the team.
Sam (the coach)- without your guidance and coaching we wouldnt had achieved our goal.
Deswyn (the photographer)- thanks alot for making all the great photos and your encouragement was useful to the team.
